On Wednesday, April 1, Dr. Randall Strossen of Ironmind and Milo Magazine stopped by Sacramento High School to observe and photograph the Hassle Free Weightlifting team go through a typical daily workout. Not only did Coach Paul Doherty have his usual 3rd period PE class, but with permission of both principals and teachers we were able to get most of the Hassle Free Weightlifting team out of class to join in this very special occasion.
There was electricity and an unprecedented energy in the air as over 50 athletes lifting on 14 platforms went heavy on the lift of their choice. We estimate that more PR's were established during this one special workout than ever before on a single day. The buzz started on campus the previous two days as news of Dr. Strossen's photo shoot worked it's way around the campus. As part of the preparation on Tuesday, we completed a complete reconfiguration and clean-up of the weight room, implementing a layout and design that Coach Doherty planned for 3 years.
Lots of pictures were taken, the kids were energized, and teachers, coaches, and administrators were stopping by to see what all the fuss was about. The result was a huge boost in local support and enthusiasm for one of the largest, if not the largest, youth weightlifting program in the country.
Here are a few pictures and a link to more. Dr. Strossen will soon be reporting about his visit and we'll keep you posted when it's published.
